Sabrina Yeap – the mother to the lesser furkids :by Julie Pek
Today is the 6th day after her passing on of Sabrina Yeap. My heart still sad and I am still in unbelief that she is no longer with us. Her untimely demise is a shock and great loss to many friends, animal lovers, rescuers, supporters and she will be greatly missed by all the furkids and felines that she left behind ..also one goat called Raju. I have known her for three months(helping out as volunteer on saturdays and sundays when I could) only when she accepted Kelly and Jackie to the furry friends farm. Story can be read in this post Kelly and Jackie. She told me that :” We must do the best for the animals. ” Sabrina Yeap was very dedicated and serve the animals with great compassion. She would explain to me the do and donts of the managing/feeding/caring/washing … etc etc . I was happy too to go and help and at the same time see Kelly and Jackie. I would go with food and drinks for her and John (volunteer from Australia) of which she had to be persuaded to take time to sit and eat. Sabrina Yeap would greet her visitors and volunteers and would said many many times Thank You for the contribution of dog food, cat food or rice to whoever brought in. She has a smiling and pleasant disposition and very approachable and encouraging. She would speak with joy and enthusiasm when she tell you the name and the story of the cat or the dog. She knows them by name and every animals has a name.! She never scold the animals nor get angry or complain.. but she carry the joy in her face when working in the farm. Every chore looks so tough and mundane..but she does it with joy. I told her “Sis Sabrina I don’t think I want to feed the dogs today, the pail of food (cook rice with meat) – more than 25 pails to go around) is so heavy, Last week I got backache. Perhaps today I just wash the bowls” She would replied with a smile, “Yes, you take a rest, Go and play with Jackie and Kelly. Do not pressure yourself, Just do what you can do. Even small things you do for me means a great help to me.” Of course, I did not leave her alone because I can’t bear to see her doing alone. There are so much to be done in the farm. I wonder where she got the energy of ox from. Even though it was going late, she would tell me that she would come back, she going to pick up 4 pups which was abandoned. She did come back with the 4 pups full of ticks and we plucked the ticks and de-tick until the sun comes down. She would not say NO to people who need help. The last batch of cats she took in was a mother cat and 7 kittens. I was asked to help to put the cats in the bigger cage and gave food and water. Sis Sabrina told me the woman and the son drove from Penang and could not bear to see the mother cat and 7 kittens at the streets. The woman and son then left for Penang on the same day. Kelly and Jackie were getting use to the new place and on my third week visit, they were following Sabrina here and there, trotting behind her. So were other dogs too. Many close friends are so sad about her demise but Sabrina have left a legacy behind.
Sabrina Yeap had contributed to the country by taking so many strays off the street and neuter and spay the cats and dogs and hence controlling the number of strays. This is the same vision of every animal lover and rescuer. Her famous story is the Ketam dogs. She is the Mother to the many strays like Mother Theresa to the poor she is Mother Theresa to the abandoned and homeless animals. I will always remember her meekness, gentleness, the kindness I see in her eyes, the sweet and healing words to the animals and to her friends. One can tell from her face that she had endureth much and done much. She is an extra-ordinary woman. She is awesome and her love towards the animals are amazing. I am very honoured and privileged to know her and have friendship with her even though it was a brief period. . I pray that all her friends, supporters, volunteers, animal lovers will continue with her legacy of Furry Friend Farm that she left behind.
Your furkids will miss you dearly and Thank you Ms Sabrina Yeap for doing so much for the animals.
May you rest in peace.
Sabrina was an orphan. These children are also from the orphanage.
